The firm was founded in 1860 by William Bartlett when he bought an existing firm after having finished his training contract in London. He set up at York Chambers 20 North John Street Liverpool. His legal work involved finance and banking, property, and estate work. The firm continued with the first son always being called John Adams Bartlett and joining the firm. The current John Adams Bartlett took over the running of Liverpool office in 1966 when his father John Adams Bartlett retired.
The History and expansion of the Walton Vale Office.
The Walton Vale office was opened in 1984 with the aim of creating a good out of town office to match the best in the City Centre. We have dealt with clients all around the country, and even the world as with modern methods of communication, distance is not a problem.
Initially solicitors worked there only on a part time basis. In 1988 as demand grew, Mark Burgess began to work there full time to deal with accident claims, and the first major litigation in which he was involved in was the tragedy of the Hillsborough Disaster.
Gareth Alty joined him but dealt with conveyancing probate and wills. Doreen Haake also ran the conveyancing department in this office until it was transferred to our North John Street office, although conveyancing quotes can still be obtained by telephoning this office on 0151 521 7333 and asking to speak with Lee Lacey.
Gary Williams joined in October 1995 to deal with litigation matters. We dealt with numerous housing disrepair cases in 1990s. The office expanded offering a complete set of legal services with the benefit of legal aid, from accidents to divorce work, or dealing with criminal charges. Advising on eligibility for welfare benefits became very popular and John Durband and Sonia Parker helped thousands of people to obtain their rightful welfare benefit entitlements. 13 members of staff worked in the office at one time. However Legal Aid cut backs led to us being forced to give up Legal Aid in 2000 and to concentrate on accident cases.
Andrew Bloxham joined in November 2000 as a trainee and has built up a loyal client following. Lee Lacey joined in September 2008 as our 5th Trainee to work in the Walton Vale office. In 2005 we began to deal with the unfair bank charges with which we had considerable success until the test case brought all such cases to a stand still, and eventual collapse. In 2009 we started to deal with Personal Protection Insurance litigation (PPI). Due to continued growth, in 2010 Deborah Gornall, our 6th Trainee, commenced work in the Walton Vale office.
However dealing with accident claims has been our main business over the last decade, and we have recovered £millions for clients, all at no charge to them.
We run an efficient and friendly service, priding ourselves in dealing with matters received on a same day basis.
